Cercis Merlot has beautiful dark purple foliage and noted for it’s excellent tolerance to drought and heat once established.
Cercis canadensis 'Merlot' (Eastern Redbud) is a compact, deciduous tree with an upright, dense, vase-shaped habit. It will grow to approximately 3-4m tall and wide at maturity.
The Merlot feature a brilliant show of massed bright pink/purple flowers along the bare branches in spring. Autumn provides a stunning display of reds, oranges and yellows.
It has a tighter, denser habit than Cercis ‘Forest Pansy’ and the leaves of ‘Merlot’ are smaller, thicker, and glossier than those of ‘Forest Pansy’. The Cercis canadensis Merlot will add elegance to any space including small gardens.
CONDITIONS: Adaptable to a range of soil types once established, but prefers moist, well drained soil.
ASPECT: Full sun to part shade.
FEATURES: Beautiful pink/purple flowers on bare limbs in Spring. Stunning glossy heart shaped leaves through Spring and Summer. Magnificent Autumn colour from Yellow through to Reds.
CARE: After planting water in well and provide a complete fertiliser to the cultivated area. When young will benefit from an application of complete fertiliser each Spring.
