Catalpa bignonioides ‘Nana’

from A$500.00

Catalpa bignonioides Nana, is also known as a mop top Indian bean tree, this lush, large leafed exotic is a unique and impressive addition to any garden.

Catalpa Nana forms a dense, broad-domed canopy on top of its 1.8m grafted trunk.  The canopy grows in a naturally rounded habit, without the need for pruning and shaping. The leaves are a medium green and heart shaped, reaching up to a massive 25cm. Being a deciduous tree it does lose its leaves for winter, after turning black. This cultivar rarely flowers.

Reaching a size of 5m x 3m, this exceptional tree is suited to being a specimen tree, as an entrance pair, to line a path or drive, to create a green pergola, or simply to add shape and texture to a garden.

The Nana is considered to be quite a hardy tree, tolerating a variety of soil types and conditions. However, it does need a protected site as the leaves are prone to wind damage. It prefers a full sun position, along with regular watering during establishment and during dry periods.
